A curated journey for guests of Lone Star Residence.
Everything you might need within a short drive of the residence — groceries, restaurants, temples, medical, and banking. Curated by us, verified by our on-site team.
Casuarina is your best bet for a full swim day. The northern beaches are pristine but have no lifeguards — supervise children, and avoid swimming during rough weather.
Schedules change seasonally — always verify on the airline's own site before booking. Milkuthan can arrange airport pickup with advance notice.
Ferry departure times shift with the monsoon and are frequently cancelled in rough seas. Confirm the same morning with Milkuthan before setting out.
Please dress modestly when visiting — women should cover head, shoulders and knees; men remove shoes before entering the prayer hall.
Dress code applies: shoulders and knees covered, shoes removed at the shrine, no back-turned photos in front of the Buddha statue. Milkuthan can arrange a driver for the Nainativu ferry day-trip.
Milkuthan can arrange for a market visit + on-house preparation of your purchase — the residence's kitchen is fully equipped for a beach-day-style fish curry.
Tip: notify your card issuer before travel to avoid international-use blocks. Commercial Bank & Bank of Ceylon main branches in Jaffna handle currency exchange at rates typically better than the airport.
Hours and phone numbers were accurate at time of publication — please confirm locally if it matters (holidays, temple festival days, etc.). Milkuthan is a quick call away for anything time-sensitive.
All trains on the Northern Line stop at Jaffna and continue to Kankesanthurai (KKS). Local stations closest to the residence are highlighted in green.

Full-day excursions west of Jaffna into the Mannar region — combine any two for a rewarding day, or make an overnight stop for all three. Milkuthan can arrange a car with a driver who knows the routes.
Connected to the mainland by a long causeway, Mannar Island has a character all its own — colonial fort, ancient baobab trees, and wild donkeys wandering the streets.
One of the most sacred Catholic shrines in South Asia — a peaceful jungle sanctuary sheltering a statue of Our Lady of Madhu that dates from 1544. Pilgrims come from all traditions, not just Christians.
The westernmost point of Sri Lanka. From the beach here you can see the chain of limestone shoals of Adam's Bridge (Rama's Sethu) stretching toward India — said in Hindu mythology to be built by Rama's army to cross to Lanka.
All three destinations are on the same A32 corridor from Jaffna. A pragmatic sequence: leave early (6 AM), Mannar Town by mid-morning, Talaimannar by early afternoon, Madhu on the way back — or split across two days with an overnight in Mannar. Milkuthan can recommend drivers and accommodations.
Jaffna has a distinct festival calendar and a very different climate from the south of the island. Here's what to expect by month, plus the major events that draw visitors.
Poya (Buddhist full-moon) days vary by year — check a Sri Lankan almanac for exact dates. During major festivals, expect closures, traffic detours near temples, and hotel prices to spike.
